Farming
Dharma farms is owned and operated by Allan Yoza. Dharma Farms is a work exchange farm in the lower Puna area of the Big Island. Allan planted noni trees (used for the production of noni juice), bananas, avocados, pineapples, and other exotic fruit trees. The trees on the farm are matured and Allan Yoza is a seasoned farmer with decades of farming under his belt. Dharma farms has cabins, shower, and kitchen facilities. Noni Juice

Allan Yoza has been surfing for over 40 years. Allan has surfed popular north shore Hawaii spots such as pipeline, rocky point, v-land, and sunset beach. He also visited Costa Rica (pictures coming soon)

Since moving to the Big Island, Allan Yoza has popularized such surfing techniques as switch foot and switch foot take off. Allan can still shred on a short board, but he usually brings out his 8 footer, giving the wwoofers a chance to catch some waves.

Surfing with Allan Yoza
Allan's favorite Big Island surfing spot is Honoli'i featured above. Honoli'i is one of the better surf spots on the east side of the Big Island.

Allan usually goes on Sundays, but back in the day, he used to surf every day in the morning before work.

Wwoofers, workers, volunteers, and friends are welcome to come along. Allan's work truck is a regular sight at the Honoli'i parking area. Allan also has lots of surfboards around the house for people to use. If you are a decent shaper, or can handle some resin, there are boards that need to be fixed up too.

"I rented from Allan Yoza for 8 months while me and my wife were visiting Hawaii. Our experience was good. We rented a large studio and had access to a kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Everything worked and when things needed to be fixed, they were fixed by an on site handyman in a very timely manner.

The premises were kept clean and there was a nice garden that was maintained by work exchange volunteers.

Mr. Yoza kept regular office hours and this made it so communication was easy. He kept everything straight forward and his secretaries were always helpful. We did our part and when we left we got our deposit back.

If I come back to Hawaii, I will definitely be stopping by to say hello to the friends I made."

"In 2004, I rented from Allan Yoza. I worked a few hours a day in exchange for a large loft. With wooden floors and large front and back windows, it was an ideal location for my daily meditations. I caught the morning sun through the front windows facing the ocean and the evening sunsets through the back window with a great view of Mauna Kea.

The loft was high and overlooking lychee trees and banana trees. This was also good for my meditation.

I had a private entrance and was always treated cordially by the other tennants. The neighbors were quiet.

The property is within five minutes of the shops and it is easy to cycle to. Also within easy cycling is a golf course, post office, and beaches such as Richardsons where I went often for snorkeling and swimming.

All in all, I had a great experience. I recommend anyone wanting to visit the island in an inexpensive way to stay here."
